Bisons Shutout Southwest Baptist for First Win

SEARCY — After a quiet first half, Harding sophomore Nojus Grudis scored twice in the second half and the Harding men's soccer team secured its first win of the season, defeating Southwest Baptist 2-0 in its home opener.

It was Harding's 10th consecutive victory over Southwest Baptist, a Great Lakes Valley Conference team from Bolivar, Missouri, but the teams were playing for the first time since 2018.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie, but the Bisons found their rhythm after the break. Just over 10 minutes in, Grudis broke the stalemate in the 55th minute, scoring his first goal of the night off assists from Roman Berry and Reik Barrack. Grudis continued his scoring streak in the 67th minute, finding the back of the net again on a pass from Spencer Patterson. This marked the first multi-goal game of Grudis' collegiate career.

Harding's defense, led by freshman goalkeeper Rinner Stewart, held strong throughout the contest. Stewart recorded eight saves for his first collegiate shutout.

With the win, Harding's record improved to 1-1-1. The Bisons next match is Friday, September 12, when they take on William Jewell at 1 p.m. in Liberty, Missouri.
