RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a dominant week that propelled the No. 11 Harding Lady Bisons into sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference, freshman guard Kori Sanders has been named the GAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
The conference office announced the Week 13 honors Monday afternoon. Sanders shared the offensive accolade with Henderson State's Natalie Cardenas, while Southwestern Oklahoma State's Landry Allen earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Sanders, a native of Lamar, Arkansas, was the catalyst for a perfect 3-0 week for the Lady Bisons. She averaged 18.0 points per game while shooting an efficient 55.6 percent from the floor. Her perimeter shooting was particularly lethal, as she connected on 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from beyond the three-point arc over the three-game stretch.
In a pivotal victory over rival Ouachita Baptist, Sanders facilitated the offense with nine assists. She followed that performance by recording a double-double in a showdown against No. 25 Arkansas Tech, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds. She capped her award-winning week with a 17-point effort in Saturday's road win at Southern Arkansas.
This is the first career GAC Player of the Week honor for Sanders, who has started every game of her freshman campaign.
In addition to Sanders' honor, Harding center Kennedy Stout was among those nominated for Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts during the Lady Bisons' winning streak.
Harding returns to action this Thursday, Feb. 19, traveling to Ada, Oklahoma, to take on East Central. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
