DURANT, Okla. – Freshman Reggie Webster recorded his first collegiate double-double, and the Harding Bisons overcame an early 12-point deficit to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State 70-65 on Saturday afternoon at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The victory marks Harding's (19-7, 15-5 GAC) sixth consecutive win and solidifies their hold on third place in the Great American Conference standings. It was also a rare success in Durant, marking just the fourth win for the Bisons in 18 trips to the venue.
Webster was the catalyst for the Harding offense, finishing with a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds. It was his sixth 20-point performance of the season.
Turning Point
Southeastern (8-18, 7-13 GAC) appeared ready to run away with the contest early, opening the game on an 8-0 run and extending that lead to 27-15 with 6:12 remaining in the first half.
However, the Bisons responded with a 16-3 surge to close the half, briefly taking the lead on a Webster layup before a Savage Storm three-pointer at the buzzer sent Harding into the locker room trailing 33-31.
Second Half Surge
The Bisons found their rhythm from the perimeter in the second half. Ornette Gaines sparked a 10-0 run with a three-pointer at the 11:50 mark to give Harding a 48-47 lead—a lead they would not relinquish. Keyln McBride followed with his 240th career three-pointer during the stretch, leaving him just one shy of the Harding all-time record (241, Will Francis).
Harding extended the lead to as many as nine points following a Webster layup with 6:40 remaining. Southeastern clawed back within three points in the final minute, but Wesley Booker hauled in a critical offensive rebound after a missed shot at the shot-clock buzzer, allowing the Bisons to milk the clock. Webster iced the game with two free throws with 5.4 seconds remaining.
Stat of the Game
Harding dominated the interior, out-rebounding the Savage Storm 35-25. This physical advantage led to a 14-4 edge in second-chance points and a 30-20 advantage in points in the paint.
