Mineo’s Blast, Lane’s Dominance Power Harding Past Ouachita Baptist

SEARCY, Ark.Brayden Mineo launched a three-run home run and Kyle Lane provided a strong start as Harding defeated Ouachita Baptist 11-4 on Friday night at Jerry Moore Field.

The Bisons (9-4, 6-1 GAC) used a balanced attack and capitalized on four Tiger errors to secure the victory in front of an overflow home crowd of 350.

Harding broke the game open in the third inning after trailing 1-0. Following a pair of hit batsmen and a walk to load the bases, Nathan Bowie delivered a two-run single to right field. Sacrifice flies from Logan Lacey and Cooper Newsom capped a four-run frame that gave the Bisons a lead they would never relinquish.

In the fourth, Mineo provided the exclamation point, clearing the right-field fence for a three-run shot that extended the lead to 7-1. Mineo finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Lane (2-0) earned the win, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six. Austin Kelley provided 2.2 innings of solid relief to close out the contest.

Ouachita Baptist (9-4, 4-3 GAC) attempted a comeback in the seventh, as Ashton Ybarra ripped a two-run single down the left-field line to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Tigers added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Octavio Mendivil, but they could not overcome a shaky defensive performance that led to five unearned runs for Harding.

Bowie remained a catalyst for the Harding offense, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. His performance extended his remarkable on-base streak to 43 games, moving to within one game of Myles Humphreys' school record.

Chase Oberle (3-1) took the loss for the Tigers, struggling with his command as he hit three batters and walked two over five innings of work.

The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Jerry Moore Field.
