ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Keyln McBride scored a team-high 21 points, including a critical late-game jumper, to lead Harding to a 67-66 victory over Henderson State on Saturday. The win secured the No. 3 seed for the Bisons in the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament.
Harding (21-7, 17-5 GAC) led by as many as 14 points in the second half before the Reddies (11-17, 8-14 GAC) mounted a furious comeback.
Trailing 62-50 after a Wesley Booker corner 3-pointer with 4:45 remaining, Henderson State went on an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 62-61 with under two minutes to play. McBride briefly silenced the crowd with a long 3-pointer at the 1:20 mark to push the lead back to four. After a Reddies layup, McBride again answered with a floating jumper in the lane to make it 67-63 with 18.4 seconds left.
Henderson State's Xavier Owens drilled a 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining to pull within one. Following a missed free throw by Tidjiane Camara and a tie-up with 1.3 seconds left, the Reddies were unable to get a final shot off before the buzzer.
The Bisons dominated the glass, outscoring the Reddies 22-0 in second-chance points behind 16 offensive rebounds. McBride finished 7-of-13 from the field, while Rylie Webster added 15 points and Camara chipped in 12. Booker led the effort on the boards with eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Henderson State was led by KJ Sykes, who scored 17 points off the bench. Despite shooting 55.8% from the floor—significantly higher than Harding's 43.9%—the Reddies were undone by the Bisons' advantage in second-chance opportunities and perimeter shooting. Harding connected on 11 three-pointers compared to just four for Henderson State.
With the victory, Harding officially earns the No. 3 seed for the GAC Tournament. They are scheduled to face No. 6 seed Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday at 2:15 p.m. at Northside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
