Solorzano Clincher Keeps No. 42 Bisons Perfect in GAC/MIAA South Play

SEARCY, Ark. – Senior Adrian Solorzano outlasted his opponent in a third-set thriller to clinch the match as the No. 42-ranked Harding men's tennis team defeated Northeastern State 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Elliott Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Bisons improve to 9-4 overall and move to a perfect 2-0 in GAC/MIAA South action. The win also keeps Harding undefeated at home (2-0) during the 2026 campaign.

Doubles Domination

Harding took an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point through the top of the lineup. After the RiverHawks claimed a win at No. 3, the Bisons responded at No. 2 as Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has cruised to a 6-3 victory.

The point came down to the No. 1 court, where Harding's top-ranked duo of Solorzano and Cian Mikkelsen (No. 5 nationally) showcased why they are among the elite in Division II, putting away Alexander Edley and Mansur Khajimuradov 6-2 to secure the opening tally.

Singles Battles

The Bisons extended their lead through the bottom of the order. No. 61-ranked Caleb Folse continued his dominant season at No. 4 singles, dispatching Tomas Aramburu 6-1, 6-4. Shortly after, Edoardo D'Arrigo put the Bisons on the brink of a team victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 6 position.

The clinching moment belonged to Solorzano at the No. 1 flight. After splitting the first two sets with James Edley, Solorzano dug deep in a high-pressure third set, winning a 7-4 tiebreaker to seal the conference win for Harding.

Cian Mikkelsen added the fifth point for the Bisons in the most grueling match of the day at No. 3. Mikkelsen dropped the first set but rallied to force a third-set tiebreaker, eventually outlasting Khajimuradov 11-9 in the breaker.

Record Watch

The victory was a milestone day for Cian Mikkelsen, whose doubles win moved him into a tie for 8th place on Harding's all-time career doubles wins list (62). Mikkelsen also currently holds the all-time school record for best doubles winning percentage in a single season, set during his 15-0 run in 2022-23.
