RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a dominant individual performance that led No. 26 Harding to a team trophy, junior Jose Arzu has been named the Great American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Arzu, a native of Guatemala City, Guatemala, captured medalist honors at the Shadow Valley Invitational in Rogers, Arkansas. He finished the 54-hole tournament at 4-under 212, edging out teammate and runner-up Jose Manuel Peralta by a single stroke.
Precision Off the Tee
The hallmark of Arzu's performance was his elite accuracy. He found the short grass on 39 of 42 fairways throughout the tournament, providing the foundation for a consistent week of scoring. After an even-par opening round, Arzu caught fire over the final 36 holes, carding consecutive rounds of 2-under 70.
His clinical approach play resulted in 10 birdies across the final two rounds, helping the Bisons successfully defend their team title and claim an 11-stroke victory over the 17-team field.
