No. 36 Bisons Take Road Victory at Emporia State

Box Score

EMPORIA, Kan. – The No. 36-ranked Harding men's tennis team continued its run of success against Emporia State on Saturday, earning a 6-1 victory at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

The win marks the fifth consecutive victory for Harding (7-2) over the Hornets dating back to 2017. The Bisons remain undefeated in the all-time series and have now secured back-to-back regional wins following Monday's home-opening victory in Searcy.

Harding secured the doubles point in dramatic fashion to open the match. After Emporia State took the top flight, the duo of Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has evened the score with a 6-3 win at No. 2. The point came down to the No. 3 position, where Sebastian De Las Salas and Luis Agullo outlasted Gwendal Mazuay and Roko Kacer in a 7-5 battle to give Harding the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Bisons took control early in the flight order. Freshman Jan Alexander Has was the first off the court, providing a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4. Shortly after, No. 35-ranked Adrian Solorzano notched a clinical 6-3, 6-4 victory at the top flight to put the Bisons within one point of the dual win.

Cian Mikkelsen provided the clincher at the No. 3 spot. After a 6-3 first set, Mikkelsen showed his grit in the second, taking a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker to officially secure the match for Harding.

At No. 2 singles, No. 71 Sebastian De Las Salas dropped the opening set 6-1 to Diego Calvo but showed the resilience that earned him the MIAA/GAC Athlete of the Week honor. De Las Salas rallied to take the second set 6-3 and dominated the third 6-3 to finish the three-set comeback.

Caleb Folse added the final Bison point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5. Emporia State earned its lone point at the No. 6 position, where Roko Kacer was awarded the win after Luis Agullo was forced to retire due to injury while trailing 6-2, 4-0.

Harding has now won three of its last four matches and continues its road trip Sunday against William Jewell at noon.
