Henderson State Walk-Off Homer Sinks Bisons in Series Finale

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the second time in three days, Henderson State used ninth-inning heroics to stun Harding baseball, as Mason Krznarich launched a walk-off, two-run home run to give the Reddies a 4-2 victory and the series win on Sunday afternoon at Clyde Berry Field.

Harding (11-8, 8-4 GAC) led for nearly the entire contest behind a stellar start from Merritt Jay, but the Reddies (12-8, 6-6 GAC) scored two in the eighth to tie it before Krznarich's game-winning blast in the ninth.

Jay was dominant in a no-decision for the Bisons. The right-hander tossed 7.0 innings of six-hit ball, allowing just one run while striking out six and walking none. He exited the game with a 2-1 lead after throwing 70 of his 98 pitches for strikes.

Harding manufactured its runs through situational hitting. In the third inning, Nathan Bowie reached on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Collin Helms. The Bisons extended the lead to 2-0 in the seventh when Johnathan Jackson, who had reached on a fielder's choice and stolen second, scored on a sacrifice fly from Logan Lacey.

The Reddies began their comeback in the bottom of the eighth against the Harding bullpen. After Grant Fitch doubled, Cole McClendon delivered a pinch-hit single to center field. A muffed throw on the play allowed Fitch to score and McClendon to reach second. Tanner Ross then reached on a fielder's choice that scored McClendon to knot the game at 2-2.

In the ninth, Cooper McClure led off with a single. After a strikeout, Krznarich ended the game by driving a 0-0 pitch over the right-field wall.

Dom Davis, Jack Opoien, and Easton Jones each recorded doubles for the Bisons, who out-hit the Reddies in the first two games of the series but were limited to six hits in the finale. Harding also aggressive on the base paths, recording four stolen bases in the loss.

Rhett Richardson (1-0) earned the win in relief for Henderson State, tossing two scoreless innings. Austin Kelley (1-1) took the loss for Harding.
