HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Senior right-hander Kyle Lane remained unbeaten and Phoenix West provided the late-inning fireworks as No. 3-seeded Harding rallied to defeat No. 6 Northwestern Oklahoma State 4-2 in the opening round of the Great American Conference Baseball Tournament on Thursday night.
Lane (9-0) delivered a career-defining performance at Babe Ruth Field, tossing his first career complete game. The Xenia, Ohio, native allowed just two runs on seven hits while tying a career-high with nine strikeouts. He punctuated the victory in style, freezing Jason McCarty with a 90 mph fastball on his final pitch of the night.
With the win, Lane became only the second pitcher in Harding history to reach a 9-0 record in a single season.
Offensive Spark
For much of the night, the Bisons' offense was silent. Northwestern starter Will Kates was perfect through 4.1 innings before leaving the game with an apparent injury. It wasn't until the sixth inning that Bo Solley broke up the Rangers' no-hitter with a sharp single down the right-field line.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Easton Jones provided the equalizer. After Solley and Nathan Bowie moved into scoring position, Jones laced a hard ground ball through the left side to drive in both runners, tying the game at 2-2.
In the seventh, the Bisons took the lead for good. Following a walk to Collin Helms, Phoenix West hammered a 2-2 offering from reliever Ryan McClaskey (0-3) over the right-center field wall. The two-run blast was West's seventh of the year and his most significant to date, giving Harding its first lead at 4-2.
Defensive Highlights
The Bisons' defense proved its worth early. In the third inning, Helms showcased his arm by throwing out Alexander Dabrowski on a "strike-em-out, throw-em-out" double play. It was a rare feat, as Dabrowski had been successful on 45 of 51 steal attempts entering the game.
Notable Streaks
While the Bisons celebrated the victory, one historic streak came to an end. Third baseman Logan Lacey went 0-for-4, ending his school-record reached-base streak at 47 games. Lacey had reached safely in every game of the 2026 season prior to Thursday night.
Harding has now won nine consecutive games against the Rangers and 14 of the last 15 meetings between the two programs.
