SEARCY, Ark. — History will be made Monday morning at the David Elliott Tennis Complex as the No. 35-ranked Harding men's tennis team hosts an NCAA Tournament match for the first time in program history.
The No. 2-seeded Bisons (16-7) welcome No. 3 seed Nebraska-Kearney (16-7) for the NCAA Central Regional final at 11 a.m. The winner will punch an automatic ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Surprise, Arizona, scheduled for May 20-24.
The Stakes
Harding is making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its third consecutive trip. Despite a long history of postseason qualification, the Bisons are still searching for their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Playing on their home courts in Searcy provides the Bisons their best opportunity yet to break that barrier.
The Rematch
Monday's clash is a direct rematch of the MIAA Tournament semifinal held on April 30 in Springfield, Missouri. In that contest, Harding dropped the doubles point but stormed back with four straight singles wins to claim a 4-1 victory.
Lineup Breakdown
Doubles: Harding boasts a significant advantage at the top of the doubles lineup with the No. 3-ranked duo of Adrian Solorzano and Cian Mikkelsen (18-7 overall). However, UNK's top pair of Ivan Melnik and Andy Brisdon, ranked seventh nationally, took the match in the previous meeting, 6-1. The Bisons will look for stability at the No. 2 spot from #27 Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has, who lead the team with a 19-9 overall record.
Singles: The singles lineup features elite depth for the Bisons. Adrian Solorzano (No. 66 nationally) leads the way at No. 1 with 15 dual-match wins this season.
Freshman Jan Alexander Has and junior Cian Mikkelsen were the catalysts in the previous meeting, securing the points that demoralized the Lopers' momentum.
Coach's Corner
The Bisons enter the regional with momentum, having reached the MIAA Championship match for the first time in school history just ten days ago. The team's 16-7 record is one of the strongest in the central region, characterized by a dominant 9-4 record on the road and a perfect 3-0 mark at home this season.
