SEARCY — Harding freshman outside hitter Melaina Haines has been selected as the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Haines, a native of Jackson, Missouri, delivered a dominant week on the attack for the Lady Bisons, averaging 5.00 kills per set and 6.00 points per set across eight sets of conference action. She finished the two-match stretch with 40 total kills while hitting .289, recording a double-double in both contests.
In Harding's straight-sets victory over Ouachita Baptist, Haines notched 14 kills, 13 digs, and two service aces while hitting .303. She followed that performance with another strong offensive showing in a hard-fought five-set battle at Henderson State.
Haines is the third Lady Bison to earn GAC Player of the Week honors this season, joining defensive standout Rauly Eason and setter Olivia Wiedower, who both swept their respective weekly awards on Sept. 14.
Harding enters the fifth week of the season with a 12-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in GAC play. The Lady Bisons sit in a four-way tie for third place in the conference standings, just one game behind Oklahoma Baptist (11-4, 3-0 GAC) and Arkansas Tech (9-6, 3-0 GAC).
