HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Outside hitter Addie Worley delivered an efficient performance with a team-high 13 kills, but the Harding volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-23) to Alabama Huntsville on Thursday night at Spragins Hall.
Harding suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 4-1 overall, while UAH remained undefeated at 4-0.
Worley led the Lady Bisons' attack, converting 25 total attacks into 13 kills with zero errors to post a .520 hitting percentage. Melaina Haines contributed six kills and led the service game with three aces. Senior Mallory Weyand paced the defense with a game-high 13 digs while adding five assists and a service ace.
In the opening set, Harding rallied from a 15-9 deficit with a 7-1 run, tying the set at 16 following a service ace from Weyand. However, UAH answered with a late surge to capture the first frame 25-20.
The second set featured tight back-and-forth action before the Chargers used a late push to take a 25-21 win. Harding kept the pressure on in the third set, pulling within one point late at 24-23 after a Harding block but UAH closed out the match on the next point to secure the sweep.
At the net, senior Philomina Klotz registered three blocks (one solo, two assists) to lead the Lady Bisons' front row defense.
Harding hit .168 as a team on the night, compiling 31 kills, while UAH posted a .319 attack percentage with 48 kills. Cooper Garrett paced the Chargers with 11 kills and 20 assists.
The Lady Bisons will look to bounce back Friday taking on Trevecca Nazarene at 12:15 p.m., in the second game of the UAH Invitational.
