-- Interview with Matt Hall
SEARCY – Former Harding University basketball standout Matt Hall has signed a professional contract with Fuerza Regia Monterrey of the Mexican League and will begin play with the squad in August.
Proximity played a large part in Hall's decision to sign with Monterrey.
“With Monterrey being only a 12-hour drive from my hometown (DeQueen, Ark.) instead of me being halfway around the world, that made it that much more appealing,” Hall said.
Hall feels that having more American players on his team could also be a welcome change.
“We will have at least three Americans and possibly three more Mexican-Americans on our team,” Hall said. “I probably will not be asked to do quite as much as before. My coach (in Luxembourg) asked me to get 40 points and 20 rebounds one night, in all seriousness. That is a lot to ask of any one player.”
Fuerza Regia plays 48 games in the regular season and competes in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional, the top professional basketball league in Mexcio. The team plays its home games in Nuevo Leon Gimnasium, an arena that seats 4,200 fans.
While at Harding, Hall was the three-time Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Year (2004, 2005, 2007) and is second all-time at Harding with 2,227 points scored.
