JACKSON, Tenn. – The Harding baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lambuth on Saturday at Lambuth Field. The Bisons fell 11-1 in game one and 8-5 in game two and dropped to 2-10 on the season. Lambuth improved to 12-3. The teams conclude the four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Lambuth used a seven-run third inning to blow open game one. The Eagles had 10 hits, including two home runs, in the game. Senior Bart White hit his eighth home run of the season to lead off the fourth inning for Lambuth.
Harding senior starter Troy Keith (1-1), who pitched a no-hitter vs. Alabama-Huntsville in his last outing, lasted just 2 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs (six earned) on five hits. Freshman Tyler Billen pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and yielded three runs (two earned) on five hits.
The Bisons had six hits in the game, all singles, with two each coming from Chase Presley and Jason Nappi. Presley scored Harding's lone run on an RBI single by Nappi in the third inning.
Harding battled back from a four-run deficit in game two to take a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Lambuth responded with four runs in the fifth to take the lead and held on for the win.
Bison senior starter Patrick Nappi lasted two innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. Harding trailed 4-1 after three.
In the fourth, the Bisons plated two. The first came on a Heath Boyd RBI single. Paul Anzalone also scored on an Eagle fielding error. Harding added two more in the fifth on Erin McCarver's two-run double that gave the Bisons a 5-4 lead.
A Harding error helped contribute to the four-run Lambuth fifth inning and three of the runs scored off Bison relievers Jacob Giles (0-1) and Marc McRae were unearned.
McCarver and Boyd both had two hits and two RBI for Harding in game two.
Harding has now lost each of its eight road games this season.
