SEARCY - The Harding women's soccer team opened their 2010 season with a 3-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon in Searcy. It was the first time since 2007 that the Lady Bisons have opened with a win.
Harding got on the board first when sophomore midfielder Lauren Hawes found the lower left corner of the net on a loose ball inside the box. It was her first career goal at Harding.
Palm Beach Atlantic evened things up in the 35th minute when Ashley Shoaf received a pass from Katie Runyon and found the lower right corner of the net.
The Lady Bisons took back the lead with three minutes remaining in the first half when junior forward Paola Eusse found freshman forward Adriana Lucar on the left side of the goal. It was Lucar's first career goal at Harding.
Harding extended their lead 59 seconds into the second half when Lucar found Eusse 10 yards out for her fourth career goal.
Palm Beach Atlantic had 13 shots, eight were on goal. Harding had seven shots, four were on goal.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Tuesday as they take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
