SEARCY – The Harding pitching staff allowed one unearned run and just five hits in a doubleheader sweep of Lambuth on Saturday at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons won by scores of 9-0 and 2-1 and improved to 10-3.
Sophomore right-hander Ryan Modglin (2-0) started the opener for Harding and allowed only two hits and struck out six in seven innings. Marc McRae and Tyler Billen followed Modglin with a scoreless inning each.
Modglin has allowed only two earned runs in his three starts and has a 1.06 ERA. He has struck out 18 and yielded only five hits in 17.0 innings pitched.
Offensively, senior Trent Kinnear went 3-for-4 to lead the Bisons' nine-hit attack. Harding led 3-0 after six innings and pulled away with a six-run seventh.
Jason Nappi had a two-run triple in the inning. Kinnear, Erin McCarver and Matt Calhoun also drove in runs.
Cable McMinn had both hits for Lambuth (3-8). He had a single in the first and a double in the fourth.
Tyler Burke (0-2) suffered the loss for Lambuth, allowing three earned runs in six innings. He had five strikeouts.
Harding senior Brodie Brumley (1-2) rebounded from tough outing with a complete game win in game two. He allowed only three hits and an unearned run and struck out seven.
The unearned run came in the top of the first for Lambuth, and the lead held until the fifth. With two outs, Harding's Billy Ninemire doubled down the leftfield line. Nappi then scored Ninemire on a double to right center to tie the game. Anthony Guglielmi made it three straight hits with a game-winning single to right that scored Nappi.
Lambuth had the tying run at second base with only one out in the top of the seventh, but Brumley struck out the next two batters to end the game.
Harding improved to 8-1 at home with the victory. The two teams play the final game of the series Sunday at Jerry Moore Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
