SEARCY – The Harding baseball team took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning and held on to defeat Lambuth 7-6 on Sunday and sweep the three-game series against the Eagles.
Harding won Saturday's games 9-0 and 2-1 and improved to 11-3 with Sunday's victory. The Bisons are 9-1 at home.
Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, four straight Harding hitters reached base and the Bisons scored three times to take a 6-4 lead. Senior Jason Nappi lined a double to right-center to score the go-ahead runs.
Harding made it 7-4 with a run in the eighth on Paul Anzalone's sacrifice fly.
Lambuth (3-9) cut the lead to one on Cable McMinn's two-out, bases loaded single that scored two runs off Harding reliever Cameron Walker. Freshman Bronson Smith came on to get the last out, as senior right fielder Trent Kinnear tracked down Tanner Hoechlin's fly ball down the right field line to end the game.
Harding starter Logan Holthaus (2-0) earned the win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in seven innings. He also struck out seven.
The Bisons tied a season high with 12 hits in the game. Chase Presley, Billy Ninemire, Nappi and Trent Kinnear each had two hits apiece. Nappi drove in three runs.
Marty Roberson (0-1) took the loss in relief for Lambuth. He pitched to three hitters, hitting one and giving up two hits and two earned runs. Left-hander Mack Murray started and lasted 6 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs.
McMinn was 2-for-5 with four RBI to lead the Eagle offense.
Harding will play Tuesday on the road at Arkansas-Fort Smith and will return to Searcy for a three-game series beginning Saturday against Missouri S&T.
