PENSACOLA, Fla. – North Alabama scored six runs in the sixth inning and defeated Harding 8-2 on Friday at the NCAA II South Region Tournament at Jim Spooner Field.
With the loss, Harding (42-13) fell to the loser's bracket and will meet Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KVHU 95.3-FM in Searcy and will stream live on HardingSports.com. North Alabama (37-12) will play the winner of West Florida and Berry on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
North Alabama sophomore Josh Cyr went 3-for-5 and drove in five runs. Cyr had a two-run, bases loaded single in the second to score UNA's first two runs. He also had a three-run double with the bases loaded in the sixth to put the game away for the Lions.
Harding erased a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth. With one out, sophomore Erin McCarver walked and came around to score on Trent Kinner's double. Kinnear then scored to tie it on pinch-hitter Anthony Guglielmi's double.
Then came the nightmare for the Bisons. Lucas Waddell (9-3), Harding's starting pitcher, gave up a solo home run to Jake Sloan. JP LaMunyon then singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Waddell then issued his fourth walk of the game to Josh Carpenter and was replaced by freshman Cameron Walker.
Walker walked Drew Parker to load the bases and walked Nick McGregor to force in a run. One out later, Blake Stroth singled in a run and Cyr emptied the bases with a double to left center.
Waddell went 5 1/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out three. Harding walked six batters in the game, and four of them eventually scored.
Johnny Hornbuckle (8-3) allowed only five hits and two earned runs to earn the win for the Lions.
Kinnear led the Harding offense, going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
