Lady Bison Volleyball Breaks Conference Win Streak with Win

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Harding volleyball team defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-15) on Saturday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons improved to 20-7 overall and remain in first place in the GAC standings with a 9-0 record.

With the win, Harding moved its conference win streak to 26 matches, dating back to the 2011 season. It breaks the previous record of 25 set by HU during the 2003-05 seasons.

The Lady Bisons trailed in the first set 7-2 before going on a 4-0 run to cut the Southwestern Oklahoma lead to one, 7-6. The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead, 14-10, on a 7-4 run. The Lady Bisons took a 19-17 lead on a 7-2 run as HU forced five attack errors. The teams exchanged points before SWOSU went on a 5-0 run to lead 23-20. A HU kill and a Lady Bulldog attack error pulled the Lady Bisons within one but Southwestern took the set 25-23 on a kill by Carly Zak.

With the second set tied at 15, Harding went on a 7-2 run to lead 22-17. SWOSU scored the next three points but HU put the set away on two kills by junior outside hitter Marindia Turner.

The third set was all HU as they won the set 25-18. Harding had 14 kills and only four attack errors in the set.

The Lady Bisons jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the fourth set led by senior outside hitter Mollie Arnold who had five kills. Southwestern Oklahoma tried to mount a comeback but the Lady Bisons didn't allow SWOSU to get any closer than five the rest of the way.

Arnold led HU with 22 kills. Senior middle blocker Alyssa Short had 11 kills and Turner had 10 kills. Junior setter Taryn Eubank captured a double-double with 44 assists and 11 digs.

The Lady Bisons defense was led by senior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland who had 17 digs. Short led HU at the net with eight blocks.

Southwestern Oklahoma (9-17, 5-4 GAC) was led by Joey Collins who had 11 kills.

Harding will play its third of a four match road trip on Tuesday as the travel to Magnolia, Ark., to face Southern Arkansas in GAC action at 7 p.m.
