SEARCY – The Harding men's tennis team completed a three-day, four-match stretch Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith on the road. The Bisons (12-5) won three of the four matches.
Harding lost 5-4 to Arkansas-Fort Smith early in the season but reversed the score Wednesday. The Bisons won only one of the three doubles matches, with Adam Edwards and Helio Hashimoto earning an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Hashimoto played an even more important role in the singles. The Bisons got wins from Kittibodee Singnil at No. 1, Caleb McReynolds at No. 5 and Edwards at No. 6, to even the match at 4-4.
Hashimoto, playing at No. 4 singles, lost the first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker against UAFS' Matt Tabler. He then won the second set 6-4 and clinched the match for the Bisons with a 6-4 win in the third set.
Harding opened the four-match stretch with a 9-0 loss to nationally-ranked Ouachita Baptist on Monday. Tuesday the Bisons defeated NCAA Division III University of the Ozarks 8-1 and regional foe LeMoyne-Owen 9-0.
Harding plays its final home match of the season Friday against East Central at 1 p.m.
