No. 25 Fort Hays State Defeats HU Men's Soccer 2-0

SEARCY – No. 25 Fort Hays State won its eighth straight game, scoring once in both halves to defeat Harding men's soccer 2-0 on Saturday at Stevens Field.

Fort Hays State (10-3-1, 7-2-0 MIAA) has outscored opponents 36-5 during its winning streak. Harding (2-7-2, 2-5-1 MIAA) lost its second straight to a nationally-ranked team. Fort Hays State is in second place in the conference standings, while Harding is fifth.

Leading 1-0 at halftime, Fort Hays State doubled its lead in the 57th minute. Senior midfielder Tanner Brock, who scored the Tigers' first goal in the 38th minute on a penalty kick, launched a shot in the box. His shot was deflected to Austin Clifton, who scored his fifth goal of the season.

Harding outshot Fort Hays State in the second half 8-5 and forced Tiger goalkeeper Kent Freund to make three second-half saves. Freund's best save came on a point-blank shot from Ian Park that would have cut Fort Hays State's lead in half.

Brock's penalty kick goal in the first half was his team-leading sixth goal.

Harding had only four shots in the first half but none were on goal. Fort Hays State has allowed only four first-half goals in their 14 games. The Tigers have also outscored their opponents 24-9 in the second half.

Harding's next action is a non-conference game Tuesday at Ouachita Baptist. The game begins at 3:30 p.m.
