Park Scores Twice to Lead HU Men's Soccer to 4-1 Victory over Southwest Baptist

SEARCY – Harding senior Ian Park scored a goal in each half and led the Bisons to a 4-1 victory over Southwest Baptist on Thursday in MIAA action at Stevens Field.

The victory snapped Harding's seven-game winless streak and gave the Bisons two wins over the Bearcats this season. Harding (3-7-3, 3-5-1) needed the victory to remain alive for the fourth spot in the MIAA Tournament. The Bisons remained in fifth place with 10 points but are now only two points back of Upper Iowa for fourth place.

Southwest Baptist (0-13-0, 0-9-0) remained winless this season.

Park's second goal, which came in the 35th minute and gave Harding a 2-0 lead, was the eventual game-winner. It was the sixth game-winning goal of Park's career, tying him with Brock Williamson for the most in program history. The goals were the first two this season for Park and gave him three career two-goal games.

Dylan Sherrill scored Harding's opening goal in the 32nd minute on a back heel off a fee from Gehrig Haberstock.

Following Park's first goal, the Bearcats answered with a goal from Kyler Moore off a corner kick with less than two minutes before halftime.

Park netted his second goal in the 56th minute with Josiah Ireland on the assist, and Jacob Stevens scored his team-leading sixth goal in the 84th minute with Christopher Walker providing the assist.

Harding took a season-high 27 shots in the game, the most since the Bisons shot 28 times last season against Southern Nazarene.

Freshman Tyler Melson returned to the goalkeeper spot for the Bisons after missing two games with an injury. He made two saves and earned his first collegiate win.

Harding will continue its postseason push Saturday when it hosts sixth-place Southern Nazarene at 1 p.m.
