CANYON, Texas – The Cameron Aggies made 10 3-pointers to defeat the 8th-ranked Harding women's basketball team 76-70 in non-conference action at the Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic hosted by West Texas A&M on Friday. The Lady Bisons fell to 4-1 on the season.
After leading 44-40 at halftime, Harding quickly doubled its lead on back-to-back layups by senior forward Arielle Saunders. Cameron answered with an 11-0 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers. The Lady Bisons battled back to take a four-point lead with 4:27 left on two free throws by Saunders. The Aggies hit back-to-back 3-pointers again to take a 67-65 lead with 3:37 left. Cameron held Harding to only five points the rest of the way and made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minutes to seal the win.
It was the Lady Bisons' second regular-season loss in the last two seasons.
Saunders led Harding with 24 points, making 11 of 19 shots and had a game-high 13 rebounds. It was her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman forward Sydney Layrock came off the bench and hit 5 of 10 shots and finished with 12 points.
Cameron (1-4) was led by Brandi Leal, who came off the bench and hit four 3-pointers and 5 of 6 free throws to finish with 21 points. Jassmine Robinson added 18 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Harding, who came in averaging 10 3-pointers a game, was held to only five. The Lady Bisons were 5 of 21 from behind the arc.
Harding will be back in action on Saturday, meeting No. 8 West Texas A&M at 5 p.m.
