Northeastern State Upends HU Men's Soccer 5-1

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State matched its top scoring output of the season with a 5-1 victory over Harding men's soccer Thursday. It was the second of two straight non-conference road games for the Bisons, who return to Great American Conference play Tuesday at home against Ouachita.

RECORDS
Harding fell to 2-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 on the road. The Bisons remained winless in 16 games against the RiverHawks. Northeastern State improved to 5-4-0 and 4-1-0 at home.

GOALS
Northeastern St. 1
, Harding 0 – 6th minute – Brenden Bombardier scored the first of his three goals on an assist from Josue Morales.

Northeastern St. 2, Harding 0 – 14th minute – The RiverHawks doubled their lead on Brenden Bombardier's second goal. Joseph Garcia had the assist.

Northeastern St. 3, Harding 0 – 29th minute – Josue Morales made it 3-0 with a goal on a shot from the right wing.

Northeastern St., Harding 1 – 47th minute – Harding pulled a goal back with Josiah Ireland's second goal of the season. It came off a deflection that Ireland recovered at the top of the 18-yard box. He scored inside the right post.

Northeastern St. 4, Harding 1 – 56th minute – Brenden Bombardier completed the hat trick with his third goal. Assists came from Joseph Garcia and Paul Samia.

Northeastern St. 5, Harding 1 – 83rd minute – Substitute Hayden Rasmussen concluded the scoring with his first goal of the season. Juan Amaro assisted.

TEAM STATS
Northeastern State had 31 shots, the most in a game by a Harding opponent this season. The RiverHawks were the last team to have more than 30 shots against Harding. Northeastern State also had 31 shots in a 7-1 victory on Oct. 26, 2012.

Harding did not score in two games against Northeastern State. Josiah Ireland's goal snapped a 232-minute scoreless streak against the RiverHawks. Cole Walker was the last Bison to score against Northeastern State, netting two goals against the RiverHawks in 2013.

There were no yellow cards issued in the game. It was the first game this season that neither Harding not its opponent received a card. The last Harding game without a card was the Bisons 1-1 tie at Oklahoma Christian on Sept. 20, 2014.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
With his goal in the second half, Josiah Ireland has either a goal or an assist in four of Harding's last six games.

Northeastern State's Brenden Bombardier is the second player to score three goals in a game against Harding this season. Niall Masterson of Rogers State also scored a hat trick on Sept. 13.

Freshman Michael Wasson made his second start for the Bisons at goalkeeper. He made seven saves.

UP NEXT
Harding hosts Ouachita at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6. It will be the Bisons' third Great American Conference game. Harding enters 1-1-0 in GAC action.
