Harding Men's Soccer Posts 3-0 Shutout at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – Harding men's soccer posted its first road shutout of the season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference play. Harding got first-half goals from Aaron Craig and Van Thang, and Josiah Ireland added another in the second half.

RECORDS
Harding improved to 4-9-1 overall and 2-3-0 in GAC games. The Bisons are in a three-way tie for second place in the four-team conference. Ouachita clinched the regular season conference championship with its victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday. Southern Nazarene fell to 2-11-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the GAC.

Harding plays at Ouachita on Oct. 27. The Bisons would clinch at least a tie for second place with a victory.

, Southern Nazarene 0 – 18th minute – Sophomore Aaron Craig scored his first goal of the season on a cross from junior Jackson Buchanan, his second assist of 2015.

Harding 2, Southern Nazarene 0 – 27th minute – Sophomore Van Thang also scored his first goal on a feed from senior Christopher Walker.

Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 0 – 61st minute – Buchanan again provided the assist on Josiah Ireland's third goal of the season.

TEAM STATS
Harding took a season-high 25 shots. It was just the second game the Bisons got off more than 20 shots. Harding shot 21 times at Southwest Baptist on Sept. 17.

It was the first time this season that Harding scored two goals in the first half.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Jackson Buchanan's consecutive-game scoring streak came to an end at four games, which tied a school record. But Buchanan had two assists Saturday, his first career multi-assist game.

Freshman Michael Wasson started for the first time in a GAC game and made nine saves in recording his first collegiate shutout. Wasson had eight saves in the second half.

Aaron Craig registered his first game-winning goal and was the only Harding field player to play all 90 minutes.

UP NEXT
Harding goes out of conference Tuesday to host Central Baptist in its final home game of the season. The game begins at 6 p.m. at Stevens Field.
