Central Baptist Comeback Sinks Harding Men's Soccer on Senior Night

SEARCY – Harding junior Jackson Buchanan wasted little time extending his school-record scoring streak, but after that it was all Central Baptist as the Mustangs scored five straight to defeat the Bisons 5-1 on Tuesday in non-conference action at Stevens Field. The game was Harding's last at home this season. The team honored seniors Josiah Ireland, Curtis Hunt and Christopher Walker in a pregame ceremony.

RECORDS
Harding dropped to 4-10-1 overall and 2-5-1 at home. Central Baptist improved to 4-7-2 overall and took a 3-2-1 lead in the all-time series.

, Central Baptist 0 – 3rd minute – Jackson Buchanan scored for the sixth straight game, taking a long feed from Jeremy Rector on the edge of the 6-yard box and volleying it inside the right post.
Central Baptist 1, Harding 1 – 10th minute – Callum Morris scored the first of his two goals, deflecting in an errant Oscar Martinez shot.
Central Baptist 2, Harding 1 – 11th minute – Callum Morris scored again 68 seconds later after taking a pass from Ferdinand Matebu and slotting it inside the far post.
Central Baptist 3, Harding 1 – 47th minute – Cole Purtle gave the Mustangs a two-goal lead only 64 seconds into the second half. Jarrel Grimes had the assist.
Central Baptist 4, Harding 1 – 61st minute – Ferdinand Matebu scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick, shooting low the left side.
Central Baptist 5, Harding 1 – 82nd minute – Oscar Martinez concluded the scoring with his second of the year. He took advantage of a miscommunication between two Harding defenders for an easy tap in.

TEAM STATS
The shooting numbers were close between the teams. Harding outshot Central Baptist 17-16 with the Mustangs holding a 9-8 advantage on shots on goal.

Harding scored at least one goal in seven of its eight home games this season.

Central Baptist's five goals were the most by a Harding opponent at Stevens Field this season.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Jackson Buchanan has scored in six straight games. No other Harding player has ever scored in more than four straight. He scored on his only shot Tuesday night.

Barry Foster had seven shots, the most by a Harding player in a game this season. Three of his shots were on goal.

Central Baptist's Ferdinand Matebu had a goal and an assist and led the Mustangs with five shots.

UP NEXT
Harding plays its final Great American Conference game of the season next Tuesday at Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers won the regular-season title. Harding could finish second, third or fourth depending on Tuesday's result.
