Harding Men's Basketball Drops Crossover 73-67 to Northern State

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Northern State shot 58 percent and made six 3-pointers in the second half and erased Harding's seven-point lead in a 73-67 victory over the Bisons on Saturday in the GAC/NSIC Crossover.

Arkansas Tech is hosting the four-game crossover between teams from the Great American Conference and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, both part of the NCAA II Central Region. Northern State is a member of the NSIC and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Harding led 39-32 with 18:02 left in the game when senior Andraz Kavas connected on a 3-pointer. Northern State outscored Harding 17-3 over the next seven minutes and held the lead throughout. The Wolves had a lead as large as 13 points, but the Bisons used a late 6-0 run to get as close as four down the stretch.

Kavas led Harding in scoring for the second straight game, scoring 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He made four of Harding's eight 3-pointers. Seniors Jacob Gibson and Blake McNair scored 11 each.

Skye Warwick led Northern State with 28 points.

RECORDS
Harding fell to 0-2 to start the season. Northern State improved to 1-1.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
Harding shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and led 42-40 at halftime.

Kavas had 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and had two blocks in 15 minutes.

Northern State shot only 36 percent in the half. Skye Warwick made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points.

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
Kavas had 16 points in 13 minutes on the floor in the second half. McNair scored nine.

Northern State made six 3-pointers, three from Warwick, who scored 15 points in the half.

TEAM STATS
Harding had 17 assists on its 24 field goals. Reggie Anthony, Blake McNair and Will Francis had five assists each.

Both teams shot 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the free-throw line.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Kavas scored 55 points in the two games, shooting 21-of-38 from the field.

Kavas' 28-point effort Saturday was his 19th career 20-point game.

Junior transfer Stefan Andelkovic led Harding with eight rebounds.

Harding opens Great American Conference play Thursday against Northeastern Oklahoma in Alva. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
