Layrock Leads Harding Women’s Basketball Over Southwestern Oklahoma

WEATHERFORD, Okla.
– Sophomore forward Sydney Layrock scored 25 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the Harding women's basketball team over Southwestern Oklahoma 85-74 on Saturday in Great American Conference action at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

The Lady Bisons had four other players finish in double-figure scoring. Sophomore guard Lundon Williams had 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Junior guard A'ndrea Haney had 13 points, hitting 7-of-10 free throws. Senior guard Kaylee Wiedower had 12 points and freshman center Sydnie Jones had 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was her first double-double of the season.

Southwestern Oklahoma was led by Nina Gregory who came off the bench and had 16 points, making 4-of-8 3-pointers.

RECORDS
Harding captured its second straight GAC win and improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the GAC. Southwestern Oklahoma falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the GAC.

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding led 25-18 after the first quarter. It was the most points the Lady Bisons have scored in a quarter this season. Harding made 9-of-19 from the field, including four 3-pointers. The Lady Bisons also had 10 points in the paint.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
The Lady Bisons went into the locker room with a 43-34 lead. Harding scored the first 12 points in the second quarter as part of a 15-0 run that gave the Lady Bisons a 37-18 lead with 6:54 left in the half. Southwestern Oklahoma answered back with a 9-0 run and got as close as six.

THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding led 63-49 after the end of the third quarter. The Lady Bisons made five buckets and were 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Southwestern Oklahoma outscored Harding 25-22 in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bisons made six shots but made 8-of-13 from the free throw line to help seal the victory.

TEAM STATS
Harding shot 36.8 percent from the field, making 25-of-68 shots. The Lady Bisons also had a season-high 11 3-pointers. Harding also had a season-high 47 rebounds.

Southwestern Oklahoma shot 37.1 percent, making 9-of-30 from behind the 3-point line.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
It was the second time this season Sydney Layrock has had over 20 points in a game. It was the second time this season she has captured a double-double. Layrock also made a career-high 10 free throws in the game.

Lundon Williams' 3-pointers was the most she has made in a game. It also tied a career high for the most made in a game. She made five 3-pointers twice last season.

A'ndrea Haney, Sydney Layrock and Lundon Williams each had four assists.

UP NEXT
Harding will take a break from conference action on Monday when it plays its home opener against Christian Brothers at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
