Kavas Scores 29 in Harding Win at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding scored six straight points in the final 1:34 to defeat Christian Brothers 73-67 on Tuesday at Canale Arena in non-conference men's basketball action.

Harding outscored Christian Brothers 14-2 in a run that began in the final minute of the first half and stretch through the five minutes of the second half to build a 52-39 lead with 15:11 left to play.

Christian Brothers responded with a 21-6 run over the next nine minutes and took their first lead since early in the first half on a Drew Hildreth jumper with 5:44 left.

The game was tied five times in the last 6:22, the last of which came with 1:34 left when Christian Brothers' Cody Garbuzinski made two free throws.

Senior Andraz Kavas made a layup on the Bisons' next possession to give Harding a 69-67 lead. Christian Brothers never scored again. Blake McNair made a layup, and Kavas hit two free throws to seal the victory.

RECORDS
Harding improved to 2-3 overall and won at Christian Brothers for the first time since 2012. The Bucs fell to 1-4.

FIRST-HALF NOTES
Harding shot 56 percent and were 11-of-15 on 2-point attempts.

Kavas scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the first half.

SECOND-HALF NOTES
Harding held Christian Brothers to 1-of-15 shooting from 3-point range in the second half.

Christian Brothers had 10 offensive rebounds in the second half but scored only two second-chance points.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Andraz Kavas scored a season-high 29 points and has scored 24 points or more in all five of Harding's games. Kavas also led Harding with eight rebounds.

Will Francis scored 12 points, Blake McNair added 11 and Jacob Gibson scored 10 points and had seven rebounds and five assists.

Jeff Larkin played all 40 minutes and led Christian Brothers with 26 points.

TEAM NOTES
Both teams attempted 23 3-pointers, Harding made seven and Christian Brothers made four.

Harding led the game for more than 32 minutes.

Harding outscored Christian Brothers 9-2 on fast breaks and 15-11 off turnovers
