CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding women's basketball team fell to Delta State 59-51 in non-conference action on Friday.
Sophomore forward Sydney Layrock led the Lady Bisons with 12 points. Junior forward Correy Moyer came off the bench for Harding and scored 11 points, making two 3-pointers.
Delta State was led by Chelsey Rhodes who had 34 points, making 11-of-28 from the field and three 3-pointers. She also had eight rebounds and led the team with four assists.
RECORDS
Harding had a two-game winning streak snapped as it falls to 2-2 overall. Delta State improves to 2-0 on the season.
FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Delta State took a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. Harding only made four baskets in the quarter and Correy Moyer had three of them, also making two 3-pointers.
SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
For the first time this season, the Lady Bisons trailed at halftime 33-21. Harding was held to only two field goals which were both 3-pointers. Delta State made 7-of-15 from the field as Chelsey Rhodes made five baskets and finished with 13 points in the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding cut the Delta State lead to five after the end of the third quarter as they trailed 41-36. The Lady Bisons went 7-of-11 from the free throw line and grabbed 11 rebounds in the quarter. Harding held Delta State to only three baskets.
FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Delta State outscored Harding 18-15 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Harding made five field goals but Delta State went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
TEAM STATS
Harding was held to a season-low 31.3 percent shooting in the game. The Lady Bisons made 15-of-48 shots and were held to six 3-pointers. Harding was averaging 8.3 made 3-pointers heading into Friday.
Delta State made 21-of-60 field goals (35 percent) and wes held to shooting 3-of-13 from behind the 3-point line.
Each team had 12 turnovers in the game. Delta State had 11 second chance points.
Harding produced 25 bench points but allowed the Lady Statesmen to score 18 points in the paint.
The Lady Bisons were held to a season-low four offensive rebounds but allowed Delta State to grab 13.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
Sophomore guard Lundon Williams had a season-high six assists in the game for Harding. Sydney Layrock led the Lady Bisons on the boards with six. Junior guard A'ndrea Haney and sophomore guard Falan Miller each had five rebounds.
Becca Ruckes led Delta State on the boards with 11 rebounds as five of them came on the offensive end.
