Harding Women's Cross-Country Runs at Central Regional on Saturday

Meet: NCAA Division II Central Region Meet

Date: Saturday, Nov. 7

Time: 10 a.m.

Location: Joplin, Missouri

Harding women's cross-country will race Saturday in the NCAA Division II Central Region Meet in Joplin, Missouri. Harding moved to the NCAA Central Region in 2012, and this will be the Lady Bisons' fourth time entered in the event. The top five teams in the Central Region Meet and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship, also in Joplin on Nov. 21.

Harding enters the race ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II Central Region according to the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association.

The Lady Bisons ran their first NCAA Central Region Meet in Joplin in 2012, placing 11th of 26 teams. Then sophomore Ewa Zaborowska placed sixth and qualified for the national meet. In 2013, Harding placed 10th of 30 teams in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with Zaborowska leading Harding with an eighth-place finish. Last season, Harding placed 13th of 29 teams in Wayne, Nebraska. The Lady Bisons' top finisher was Kelsey Taylor, who placed 53rd.

Harding has won three regional meets during its time in the NCAA (since 1997). The Lady Bisons won the South Region championship in 2000, 2005 and 2006. Harding has also had three individual regional champions. Olympian Janet (Kogo) Cherobon won the South Region Meet in Huntsville, Alabama in 2002; Helen Singoei won in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2004; and Janee Jones won in Huntsville in 2007.

Harding will send nine runners into the 6K race. Below is a brief summary of each runner:

Madison Drennan, SO, Signal Mountain, Tenn.
Earned All-Great American Conference honors with a ninth-place finish at the conference meet on Oct. 24 … has finished among Harding's top six runners in each of her four races … her top finish of the season was fifth at the Gulf Coast Stampede … placed 93rd overall and fourth among Harding runners at the 2014 Central Region Meet (24:26.1).

Tammy Kim, SR, Temecula, Calif.
Has raced five times this season … was Harding's top finisher at the Ozarks Invitational on Oct. 10 … placed 35th at the GAC meet, 10th among Harding runners … has raced in the Central Region Meet twice in her career, placing 80th in Joplin, Missouri, in 2012 (23:14.5) and 138th in Augustana, South Dakota, in 2013 (24:26.5).

Sylvie Mueller, SO, Darmstadt, Germany
Has placed among Harding's top four runners in each of her four races this season … earned All-GAC honors with a seventh-place finish at the conference meet … placed third at the Memphis Twilight and second at the Gulf Coast Stampede … placed 75th overall and second among Harding runners last season at the Central Region Meet in 24:01.2.

Sarah Shepherd, SR, Horizon City, Texas
Placed 27th overall and seventh among Harding runners at the GAC Championship … placed 13th at the Ozarks Invitational … has raced once in the Central Region Meet, placing 136th overall and sixth among Harding runners in Augustana, South Dakota, in 2013 (24:23.7).

Kirstie Smith, SO, Amarillo, Texas
Earned second-team All-GAC honors with a 20th-place finish at the conference meet … has placed in Harding's top seven in four of her five races … placed seventh at the Memphis Twilight and fourth at the Ozarks Invitational … placed 102nd overall and fifth among Harding runners at the 2014 Central Region Meet in Wayne, Nebraska.

Kelsey Taylor, SR, Marietta, Ga.
First-team All-GAC honoree with a fourth-place finish at the conference meet … has finished among Harding's top four in each of her four races … placed sixth at the Memphis Twilight and fourth at the Gulf Coast Stampede … has raced three times in the Central Region Meet, placing 50th at Joplin, Missouri in 2012 (22:40.5), 54th at Augustana in 2013 (22:47.2), and 53rd at Wayne in 2014 … she was Harding's top finisher at the Central Region Meet last season.

Amber Webb, JR, Orlando, Fla.
Earned first-team All-GAC with a sixth-place finish at the conference meet … has three top-10 finishes in four races this season … placed ninth at the Memphis Twilight and third at the Gulf Coast Stampede … placed 41st overall and second among Harding runners at the 2013 Central Region Meet in Augustana, South Dakota (22:32.7).

Alex Whittington, JR, Ringgold, Ga.
Has raced five times and finished in Harding's top seven twice … placed 28th at the GAC Championship, eighth among Harding runners … placed seventh at the Gulf Coast Stampede and at the Ozarks Invitational … will be running in her first regional meet.

Ewa Zaborowska, SR, Wejherowo, Poland
Has won three of her four races this season and has been Harding's top runner in all four … won the Memphis Twilight, Gulf Coast Stampede and the GAC Championship … her time at the conference meet was the fastest 5K time in program and GAC history … has raced in three regional meets … placed eighth in the South Central Regional in 2011 (22:02.2), sixth in the Central Regional in 2012 (21:22.3), and eighth in the Central Regional in 2013 (21:35.3).
