Commerce Hits Late 3-Pointer to Defeat Harding Men's Basketball

SEARCY – Texas A&M-Commerce reserve guard De'Andre Carson made a 3-pointer from the right wing with less than a second left on the clock to give the Lions an 89-87 victory over Harding in non-conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding junior Will Francis had a career-high 35 and made two free throws to give the Bisons an 87-86 lead with 6.6 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Commerce's Jeremy Jones penetrated the paint and kicked the ball out to Carson who made his third 3-pointer for the win.

Commerce took an 11-point lead at 56-45 on an Anthony Adams layup with 16:22 left. Harding answered with a 13-0 run and took a 58-56 lead on Blake McNair's 3-pointer with 13:33 remaining.

The game was tied five times and there were seven lead changes down the stretch.

Senior Jacob Gibson scored 15 points, and Stefan Andelkovic added 10.

Bryant Crowder led four Commerce players in double figures with 18 points. He was 8 of 10 from the field before fouling out with just under two minutes remaining.

RECORDS
Harding fell to 4-4 overall and lost for the first time in three games at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Commerce improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in road games. The Lions now hold a 3-1 series lead against the Bisons. The two teams meet again Thursday in Commerce, Texas.

FIRST-HALF NOTES
Will Francis scored 20 points in the first half, hitting 6 of 8 from 3-point range and 7 of 9 overall.

Harding made 10 3-pointers to Texas A&M-Commerce's two.

Both teams shot 46 percent from the field.

Commerce outscored Harding 24-6 in the paint and 12-0 on second-chance points. Harding outscored Commerce 11-4 off turnovers.

Harding led for almost 17 minutes of the first half. The Bisons led by as many as 10 points, but the Tigers took the lead at 41-40 on a 3-pointer by Isaac Asrat with 2:33 left. Commerce led the rest of the half and 46-45 at halftime.

Bryant Crowder led the Lions with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Most points scored and most points allowed in the first half this season.

SECOND-HALF NOTES
Francis scored 15 points in the second half, hitting 4 of 8 from the field and making all six free-throw attempts. Gibson scored 10 of his 15 in the second half.

Harding held a 21-17 rebound advantage after halftime.

Harding was 13 of 17 from the free-throw line in the second half.

TEAM STATS
Harding was 15 of 40 from 3-point range. The 15 3-pointers were the most by the Bisons this season. Harding's 40 3-point attempts broke the previous school record of 39 set last season against Northwestern Oklahoma.

Harding shot 42 percent from the field and has shot better than 40 percent in all eight games this season.

Commerce outscored Harding 44-20 in the paint and 23-11 off second-chance points. Harding outscored Commerce 23-16 off turnovers.

Harding had 19 assists and 13 turnovers. The Bisons have been even or had more assists than turnovers in all eight games.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Francis made 11 of 17 field goals, including 7 of 11 3-pointers. It was his second career game with 30 points or more. He broke his previous career high of 32 points against Southeastern Oklahoma in 2014.

Harding's Andraz Kavas left the game at the 15:00 mark of the first half with an injury and did not return.

Blake McNair had eight points, a team-leading nine rebounds and six assists.

Reggie Anthony came off the bench and led the team with seven assists and only one turnover.
