Baseball Bisons Fall to Hendrix in Midweek Matchup

SEARCY – Harding had 10 hits but struggled with runners with runners on and fell 5-1 to Hendrix on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding fell to 4-2 and begins Great American Conference play Friday with the first game of a three-game series against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. It was the season-opener for Hendrix.

Harding had runners on base in eight of the nine innings but went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The only hit was a Noah Chandler RBI single in the fifth that scored Harrison Hunter and tied the game at 1-1.

Hunter was 3-for-4 with his second double of the season, and Chandler was 2-for-3 and reached base four times. Alan Copeland also had two hits for Harding.

Hendrix scored in the fourth on a solo home run from Matt Simmons, and the Warriors took the lead for good with three hits in the sixth. Harley Faye had an RBI on a single to right that scored Simmons.

Hendrix tacked on three unearned runs in the eighth that followed two Harding errors.

Harding and Hendrix both left 12 runners on.

The Bisons used 10 pitchers in the game, most of them getting their first work of the season. Reed Roberts, Grayson Ponder (0-1), and Connor McVay each made their collegiate debuts. Ponder took the loss, allowing a run on three hits in the sixth.

Hendrix reliever Colten Poellinger (1-0) pitched two innings to pick up the win.
