East Central Buzzer-Beater Sinks Basketball Bisons

ADA, Okla. – East Central sophomore Braxton Reeves hit a 3-pointer from the right wing at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 78-76 victory over Harding on Saturday at the Kerr Activities Center in a game that featured 18 lead changes.

The loss dropped Harding to 12-12 overall and 10-8 in the Great American Conference. The Bisons are tied with Southern Arkansas for third place in the GAC standings with two games remaining. Harding will play its third straight road game Thursday at Arkansas Tech.

East Central (18-8, 12-6) won for the sixth time in its last seven home games and remains in second place in the GAC.

Harding trailed for most of the second half and pulled within 75-74 on Andraz Kavas' 3-pointer with 37 seconds left. East Central committed a turnover on its next possession, and Kavas scored on a put-back layup with 14 seconds left to give Harding the lead.

East Central's Stirling Thomas missed a jumper on the right baseline with seven seconds left but the rebound came off Harding and out of bounds. Thomas caught the in-bounds pass and found Reeves on the right side for the game-winner.

"We just did not rebound the (next-to-last) shot," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "I know our guys are heartbroken and sick. But I give credit to Reeves, he hit a great shot."

East Central shot 64 percent in the second half and made seven 3-pointers to erase a 35-33 Harding lead at halftime. The Bisons shot 50 percent after the break and hit six 3-pointers.

Kavas led Harding with 24 points and six rebounds, his 14th game this season with 20 or more points. Will Francis made four of Harding's 11 3-pointers and scored 18 points.

Brandon Lucas led East Central with 20 points.
