Basketball Bisons Fall on Last-Second Shot in Overtime at Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech's Clarence Willard hit a baseline jumper as time expired to give the Wonder Boys a 77-76 overtime victory over Harding on Thursday in Great American Conference play at Tucker Coliseum.

Harding fell to 12-13 overall and 10-9 in the GAC after falling at the buzzer for the second straight game. The Bisons conclude the regular season Saturday at Rhodes Field House, hosting Ouachita Baptist for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Harding will enter the game as part of a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings.

Arkansas Tech (14-13, 10-9) won its second straight buzzer-beater. Willard also hit the game-winning 3-pointer against Southeastern Oklahoma last Saturday.

"It was all about toughness plays," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "That's what it boils down to. We were not tough enough."

Regulation ended with two fouls called with 1.2 seconds remaining. The first foul was called on Harding and sent Willard to the free-throw line. He made both to give Arkansas Tech a 67-65 lead. On the in-bounds pass, Arkansas Tech was whistled for a foul on Harding's Blake McNair, who made both free throws to tie the game again and send it to overtime.

Andraz Kavas scored six of Harding's nine points in overtime.

Harding started the game on a 16-2 run and led 41-30 at halftime. The Bisons shot 53 percent in the first half and made seven 3-pointers.

The second half was a different story. Harding shot only 4-of-22 (18 percent) from the field, but maintained the lead for much of the second half by hitting 16 free throws.

Kavas led Harding with 20 points, McNair had 14, and John Hudson and Will Francis had 13 each.

D.J. Jethroe was Tech leading scorer with 22 points.
