WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The No. 20 Harding women's basketball team did not have a field goal in the final five minutes of the game and suffered a 78-65 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The loss dropped Harding to 17-4 overall and 13-2 in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons have a half-game lead over Arkansas Tech, who did not play Saturday.
Arielle Saunders made a layup with 5:13 remaining that cut Southwestern Oklahoma's lead to 61-60, but the Lady Bisons missed their last six field-goal attempts and the Lady Bulldogs closed with a 17-5 run to win the game.
"We just got outplayed all over the floor," Harding head coach Tim Kirby said. "We were not very energetic about securing the ball and missed a bunch of point-blank shots. If you are not tough on the road, you are not going to win."
Corey Moyer came off the bench and made five 3-pointers and led Harding with 17 points. Freshman Sydney Layrock had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and A'ndi Haney added 10 points and six assists.
Southwestern Oklahoma (8-12, 5-9) made six 3-pointers in both halves. Nina Gregory, who had made only five 3-pointers all season, hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and scored 14 points. Jade Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points. Southwestern has won three of its last four games.
Harding will return to action next Saturday in Searcy, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
