Baseball Bisons Sweep Bulldogs, Move into GAC Lead

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Harding and Southwestern Oklahoma combined to hit 1 for 22 with runners in scoring position Monday in the finale of their three-game Great American Conference series. The one hit—a second-inning single by Bison senior Shane Kinnear that scored Davis Richardson from third base—proved to be the difference in Harding's 1-0 victory. The win gave the Bisons a series sweep of the Bulldogs and moved Harding into the lead in the GAC with one series remaining.

Harding (26-19, 17-7) has won 10 straight GAC games for the first time since joining the conference in 2012 and pulled ahead of Ouachita Baptist for the conference's top spot. The sweep of Southwestern also guaranteed Harding spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament in Enid, Oklahoma, and eliminated the Bulldogs (16-26, 9-18).

In the second, Richardson walked to lead off, and freshman Zach Beasley moved him to second with a single to left. Junior Alan Copeland reached on a fielder's choice, and Richardson went to third. Kinnear then drove a 2-0 pitch through the left side to give Harding the lead for good. Copeland was the only Harding player with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with two doubles.

Harding's pitching duo of Jacob Stripling and Collin Campbell limited Southwestern to seven hits and three walks but stranded nine Bulldog runners on base and held them hitless in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Stripling (6-3) gave up four hits and struck out five and has won five straight starts. Campbell started Sunday's second game but pitched only two innings and did not return after a 67-minute rain delay. He came back Monday and pitched four scoreless innings to collect his first career save.

Austin Hilton (3-6) started and took the loss for Southwestern.
