Union Scores in Both Halves to Defeat Harding Men's Soccer

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union scored a goal in each half and defeated Harding 2-0 Friday in non-conference men's soccer action. The game was the first of three straight road games for the Bisons.

RECORDS
Union, a member of the Gulf South Conference, improved to 1-2-0. Harding fell to 0-2-1. Union now leads the series 2-0-2.

GOALS
Union (TN) 1, Harding 0 – 8th minute – Union's Andre Silva scored on a free kick from just outside the box, bending his shot around the wall and into the lower right corner.
Union (TN) 2, Harding 0 – 54th minute – Union midfielder Clayton Martin corralled goalkeeper Matt Kesler's goal kick deep in Harding territory, eluded one defender and crossed the ball to Paul Langford for an easy tap-in goal. It was Langford's first goal of the season and Union's first second-half goal in three games.

TEAM STATS
Union outshot Harding 19-6. The Bisons had outshot their opponents 30-26 in their first two games.
Union had been outscored 5-0 in the second half of its first two games, but doubled its lead against Harding with its goal in the 54th minute.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Matt Kesler, who played defender in Union's first two games, made his first start of the season at goalkeeper and had two saves in the shutout.
Clayton Martin had seven shots for Union, the most by a Harding opponent this season.
Freshman Jason Diaz had three of Harding's six shots, including one of its two shots on goal.
