Volleyball Sweeps Henderson State to Open GAC Play

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team swept Henderson State 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-20) on Tuesday to open Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. It was also the Lady Bisons home opener.

RECORDS

Harding improves to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the GAC. Henderson State falls to 1-9 overall and 0-1 in the GAC.

SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS

After trailing 3-0 to open set one, Harding went on a 13-1 run to lead 13-4. The Lady Bisons only allowed Henderson State to score nine more points the rest of the way. Harding had 15 kills in the set and only one attack error.

SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS

Up 10-7 in the second set, Harding went on a 7-0 run behind two service aces by Anna Leigh Cargile and two kills by Sara Smith. The Lady Bisons won the set 25-13.

SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS

The third set was much closer until Harding went on a 9-2 run to lead 24-16. A service error gave the Lady Bisons the victory. Haring forced three attack errors during the run and Molly Howard had two kills.

TEAM STATS

Harding improves its home opener record to 17-2 and conference opener record to 18-1. The Lady Bisons have won 17 straight conference openers.

Harding played all 15 of its players in the match.

Henderson State was held to hitting .000 in the match as the Lady Bisons forced 25 attack errors.

INDIVIDUAL STATS

The Lady Bisons were led by junior middle blocker Sara Smith who had eight kills and hit .467. Senior outside hitter Molly Howard and junior defensive specialist Anna Leigh Cargile each had 11 digs and freshman middle blocker Zoe Hardin had seven blocks to lead the Harding defense.

The Reddies were led by Jessie Jacoby who had nine kills and 12 digs.

UP NEXT

Harding will be back in action this weekend when it takes part in the Arkansas Tech Tri-Match. The Lady Bisons will play Central Missouri and Washburn on Friday and then play Pittsburg State on Saturday.
