Delta State Scores Twice in Each Half to Defeat HU Men's Soccer

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State scored two goals in each half and defeated Harding men's soccer 4-2 on Tuesday in non-conference action at Delta Field. It was the first of two straight non-conference road games for the Bisons before Harding returns to Great American Conference action next Tuesday.

RECORDS
Harding fell to 2-6-1 overall and 1-3 on the road. The Bisons fell to 3-2 in five games played at Delta State. The Statesmen improved to 3-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 at home. It was Delta State's first victory over Harding in the last seven meetings between the teams.

GOALS
Delta State 1, Harding 0 – 2nd minute – Austin Jackman scored only 86 seconds into the game. It was the sixth-fastest goal in a game by a Harding opponent.

Delta State 2, Harding 0 – 33rd minute – Austin Jackman doubled Delta State's lead with his second goal of the first half.

Delta State 2, Harding 1 – 38th minute – Harding trimmed Delta State's lead in half on Jason Diaz's first goal of the season. The goal came on freshman Oliver Callado's first assist. It was Harding's fourth first-half goal in nine games this season.

Delta State 3, Harding 1 – 48th minute – Nicolas Garrido gave Delta State its two-goal lead back with his first goal of the season.

Delta State 4, Harding 1 – 77th minute – Brock Hollier notched the Statesmen's fourth goal. It was his second.

Delta State 4, Harding 2 – 90th minute – Junior Jackson Buchanan notched his first goal of the season with less than a minute left in regulation. Sophomore Van Cung's assist was his second.

TEAM STATS
Delta State outshot Harding 17-10, including 11-4 in shots on goal.

Harding had allowed only one goal in its previous 187 minutes before Delta State scored early Tuesday. The Statesmen had been shutout in their two previous games.

Delta State's two first-half goals matched the number of first-half goals the Statesmen had scored in its previous seven games.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Jason Diaz became the sixth different Harding player to score a goal this season and the third different freshman.

Jackson Buchanan's goal was the third of his career and first since scoring against Southern Nazarene on Sept. 26, 2013.

Delta State's Austin Jackman became the fourth different opponent to score two or more goals in a game against Harding this season.
