Anthony Keys Run to Lift Harding Men's Basketball over Arkansas-Monticello

SEARCY – Harding used a late second-half run to break open a close game and defeat Arkansas-Monticello 78-64 on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. The victory kept Harding (7-5, 6-1) in first place in the conference, one game ahead of East Central and Ouachita, who the Bisons host Saturday. The Bisons have won five straight GAC games.

Arkansas-Monticello (4-9, 2-5) fell for the seventh time in eight road games and lost in Searcy for the sixth time in its last seven games at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding took the lead midway through the first half, pushed its advantage to as many as 13, and held a 41-32 lead at halftime.

Arkansas-Monticello chipped away at the lead early in the second half and tied the game at 51-51 on a Vicktor Arnick 3-pointer with 11:10 left.

Harding sophomore point guard, who battled foul trouble early, entered the game at the next dead ball and found senior Blake McNair for a 3-pointer from the corner. Anthony then scored Harding's next six points as part of an 18-5 Bison run over the next six minutes. A layup by junior Stefan Andelkovic gave the Bisons a 68-55 advantage with 5:05 left. Harding extended the lead to 18 points twice down the stretch.

Senior Jacob Gibson led Harding in scoring with 18 points, all in the first half. Andelkovic scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and led the team with eight rebounds. Anthony had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, and junior Will Francis had 14 points and a team-high seven assists.

Arnick and Richard Benedyth led Arkansas-Monticello with 12 points each.

TEAM STATISTICS
Harding, the GAC's leader in field-goal percentage, shot 47.5 percent for the game and has shot better than 40 percent in every game this season. Arkansas-Monticello shot only 35.9 percent, the third time Harding held an opponent below 40 percent.

Harding made only seven 3-pointers, snapping a streak of five straight games with 10 or more 3-pointers.

Harding shot 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free-throw line, the fourth time the Bisons have shot over 80 percent from the line.

The Bisons scored 42 points in the paint, two short of its season high of 44 against Northwestern Oklahoma on Nov. 19. Harding has scored more than 40 in the paint three times and won all three games.

Harding, the GAC leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, had 18 assists and 10 turnovers. It was the ninth straight game the Bisons had more assists than turnovers.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Jacob Gibson scored 18 points, shooting 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. The reigning GAC Player of the Week, Gibson had scored in double figures in seven of the last eight games.

Stefan Andelkovic was 5-of-9 from the field and scored 16 points. He had been held scoreless in the previous two games after scoring 22 at Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 10.

Francis had 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and tied a season high with seven assists. Anthony was 6-of-8 from the field to score 14 points, his fourth game in double figures this season.
