Harding Men's Basketball Hits 15 3-Pointers in 84-59 Victory over Southwestern Oklahoma

Postgame Interview with Coach Morgan

SEARCY – Harding men's basketball made 15 3-pointers and turned in another solid defensive effort in an 84-59 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma before a crowd of 1,554 at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. The Bisons also set a school record with only three turnovers in the game, only one of them coming in the first half.

The victory was Harding's fifth straight and seventh in its last eight games. The Bisons improved to 12-6 overall and remained tied with Ouachita, who also won Saturday, at 11-2 in the Great American Conference. Southwestern dropped to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in the GAC.

Harding jumped out to an 18-4 lead over Southwestern Oklahoma in the game's first six minutes. The Bisons made four 3-pointers during the run, including two from Jacob Gibson and one each from Will Francis and Blake McNair.

An 11-0 run midway through the first half pushed Harding into a 22-point lead, 32-10, with 7:31 left. Four of the Bisons' five field goals in the 2½ minute stretch were 3-pointers, with two coming from junior Stefan Andelkovic.

Southwestern closed the gap to 13 points, 45-32, at halftime, and in the second half pulled to within nine with 18:10 left to go. But Harding answered with – you guessed it – more 3-pointers. Blake McNair hit two in 31 seconds, and Gibson added a layup to extend the lead to 53-36 with 16:50 left. The Bulldogs were never closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

TEAM STATS
Harding shot 49 percent from the field and has shot over 40 percent in 17 of 18 games this season. Southwestern shot 30 percent, the lowest by a Harding opponent this season and the sixth time this season an opponent shot less than 40 percent.

Harding shot 15-of-32 from 3-point range, the fourth time this season the Bisons have made 15 or more 3-pointers in a game. Harding's 47 percent clip from 3-point range marked the seventh time the Bisons have hit over 40 percent of their 3s.

Southwestern shot only 8-of-32 from 3-point range. They are the fourth straight Harding opponent to shoot 25 percent or lower from behind the arc.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Jacob Gibson led Harding with 21 points and became the 36th player in Bison history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in his career. He added seven rebounds and five assists with no turnovers.

Stefan Andelkovic recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He was 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
