Nwonumah's Overtime Goal Completes Historic Comeback

SEARCY – Sophomore Jeremy Nwonumah scored just over two minutes into double overtime to give Harding a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday in Great American Conference action. It was the last of four consecutive goals by the Bisons after Harding fell behind 3-0 early in the second half and gave Harding its first-ever victory after trailing by three goals.

Harding won its third straight and improved to 11-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the GAC, one game behind Oklahoma Baptist (8-5-1, 4-1-0) with one conference game left for both teams. Oklahoma Baptist had won its previous six games.

With the game tied at 3, Barry Foster's through ball released Nwonumah up the middle and left him one-on-one with Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper Colin Spencer. Nwonumah half-volleyed it past Spencer for his third goal of the season and his first career game-winning goal.

Harding tied the game late in the second half. In the 85th minute, Van Thang scored his first goal of the season. Jason Diaz sent a long ball up the field where Nwonumah head-flicked it to Thang. His toe poke past Spencer sent the game to overtime.

Aaron Craig scored his third goal, all against Oklahoma Baptist, in the 71st minute. Oklahoma Baptist failed to clear a corner kick that pinballed around the box before Craig tapped home the goal to cut the Oklahoma Baptist lead to 3-2.

Harding's first goal came in the 58th minute on Jason Diaz's free kick. His effort glanced off a member of the Oklahoma Baptist three-man wall and in for his third goal of the season.
Oklahoma Baptist scored twice in the first half, on a penalty kick goal by Vicente Castillo in the eighth minute and on Matthew Giudice's fourth of the season in the 30th minute.

Jonathan Martinez scored for Oklahoma Baptist in the 57th minute to put his team ahead 3-0.

Harding will play its final home game of the season Tuesday when the team hosts Central Baptist on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
