Harding Men's Basketball Wins 41st Consecutive Home Opener

SEARCY – Harding men's basketball opened its Great American Conference schedule with an 80-76 victory over Northwestern State on Thursday, winning its 41st consecutive home opener at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding won its fourth straight over Northwestern and improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference. The Rangers fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the GAC.

Junior Tim Wagner led Harding in scoring for the third straight game, hitting 9-of-10 free throws and finishing with 15 points. Wagner had eight of Harding's 16 assists and played all 40 minutes. Senior Stefan Andelkovic added 14 points, and senior Austin Mankin scored 13.

Harding shot 52 percent in the first half and led 45-27 at halftime, but Northwestern pulled within four points twice late in the game.

Harding made 11 3-pointers in the game and held Northwestern to 0-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half. The Rangers connected on 6-of-12 in the second half.

Harding junior Zac Ward tied his career high with 11 points, hitting 3-of-8 3-pointers.

Deiondray Martin led Northwestern with 16 points.

The victory was the 399th at Harding for head coach Jeff Morgan.
