Hogue’s Double-Double Lifts Lady Bison Basketball Over Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – Sophomore forward Caroline Hogue had 19 points and 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the season to lead the Harding women's basketball team to an 88-50 Great American Conference victory on Thursday.

RECORDS
Harding improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the GAC.


FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding came out of the gate with a 16-0 lead in the first five minutes. Southern Nazarene scored its first field goal with 5:01 left in the first quarter. The Lady Bisons went on to lead 28-4 after the first. Harding made 12 field goals and shot 60 percent in the quarter. Sydney Layrock had 10 points for Harding.


SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding extended its lead to 31 (38-7) on a layup by A'ndrea Haney with 5:16 left before halftime. Southern Nazarene scored the next two baskets and then cut the lead to 28 with 2:21 left. Harding went on to lead 45-15 at halftime. The Lady Bisons made seven field goals and grabbed 11 rebounds and outscored Southern Nazarene 17-11 in the quarter.


THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding took a 40 point lead with 6:23 left in the third quarter when Caroline Hogue made a free throw. The Lady Bisons lead 73-30 after the third. Harding made 10-of-15 field goals including three 3-pointers in the quarter and was led by A'ndrea Haney who had nine points.


FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
Harding took its largest lead of 45 points with 4:20 left on a jumper by Sydnie Jones. With 1:19 left Chelsea Heidebrecht made one of her two 3-pointers in the quarter to put the Lady Bisons up 43-88. Southern Nazarene then scored seven points in the final minute on two layups and three free throws. The Crimson Storm outscored Harding 20-15 in the quarter and the Lady Bisons went 6-of-15 from the field.


TEAM/INDIVIDUAL STATS
Harding shot 53.8 percent in the game, making 35-of-65 field goals. The Lady Bisons also went 9-of-24 from behind the 3-point line.

Harding held Southern Nazarene to shooting 28.6 percent and 18-of-63 field goals. The Crimson Storm went 1-for-10 from behind the 3-point line. Southern Nazarene averaged 8.3 3-pointers heading into the game.

The Lady Bisons grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and turned them into 16 points.

Harding outrebounded Southern Nazarene 48-33.

Harding never gave up the lead in the game.

Senior guard A'ndrea Haney finished with 15 points, making 7-of-8 from the field. Junior forward Sydney Layrock scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half.

Sophomore guard Chelsea Heidebrecht came off the bench for Harding had had 12 points, making three 3-pointers.

Southern Nazarene was led by Mariah Williams who had 10 points and five rebounds.

NEXT GAME

Harding will continue GAC action on Saturday when it travels to Shawnee, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Baptist at 1 p.m.
