Second-Half Comeback Moves Harding Men's Basketball into First-Place Tie

SEARCY – Harding made its last five shots of the game, including four layups, to erase a 10-point second-half deficit and defeat Arkansas-Monticello 82-78 on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Steelman Field House.

With the victory, Harding improved to 13-8 overall and moved into a three-way tie for first place in the GAC at 12-4. East Central and Ouachita Baptist are also 12-4. Arkansas-Monticello dropped to 7-15 overall and 5-11 in conference.

Harding trailed 63-53 on a Richard Benedyth 3-pointer with 9:59 left. The Bisons whittled away at the lead, and Jacob Gibson hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 74-72 with 3:08 remaining. Harding did not miss the rest of the way.

Reggie Anthony made a layup to tie the game at 74-74 with 2:36 left and hit another layup to give Harding the lead for good at the 1:57 mark. Will Francis and Blake McNair made layups, and Francis made two free throws to seal the victory.

TEAM STATS
Harding shot 70.4 percent in the second half, connecting on 19-of-27 attempts, and finished at 54.5 percent. The Bisons made 10-of-25 3-pointers.

Harding had only eight turnovers in the game and only one in the second half. The Bisons outscored the Weevils 18-11 off turnovers.

Arkansas-Monticello had 19 offensive rebounds and outscored Harding 25-6 on second-chance points.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Blake McNair led the Bisons with 24 points. He made 7-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. He has made two or more 3-pointers in 15 of Harding's last 16 games.

Reggie Anthony scored 16 points, his sixth straight game in double figures. He was 8-of-10 from the field and had six assists.

Will Francis had 14 points, four assists and no turnovers. Jacob Gibson had 13 points and made 5-of-5 free throws.

Andre Brown led Arkansas-Monticello with 18 points and 13 rebounds. He had seven of the Weevils 19 offensive rebounds.
