Harding Men's Basketball Comeback Comes Up Short at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA
– Ouachita Baptist weathered a second-half Harding comeback and defeated the Bisons 79-75 Saturday in Great American Conference action at Vining Arena.

With the victory, Ouachita remained in a tie with East Central for first place in the GAC. Both teams have 13-4 records. Harding fell into third place at 13-9 overall and 12-5 in conference games.

Harding guard Jacob Gibson connected on three 3-pointers to open the game and scored 34 points, a season high and just two points off his career high.

After Gibson's hot start, everything else in the first half went Ouachita's way. The Tigers led 51-36 at halftime, shooting 51 percent in the half.

Ouachita cooled off considerably in the second half, and Harding took advantage. Down 57-46 with 15:15 left, Harding went on a 12-2 run that was capped by Blake McNair's 3-pointer that pulled the Bisons within 59-58.

Ouachita scored the next six points and led the rest of the way.

TEAM STATS
Harding went 16-of-16 from the free-throw line, the first time a Bison team ever shot more than 10 free throws and made them all.

Harding committed a season-high 21 turnovers and was outscored 26-4 off turnovers.

Ouachita had 11 offensive rebounds and outscored Harding 14-7 on second-chance points.

INDIVIDUAL STATS
Gibson's 34 points were the most by a Harding player since Will Francis scored 35 earlier this season against Texas A&M-Commerce. It was his third career 30-point game.

Gibson shot 11-of-16 overall, 6-of-9 from 3-point range and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Reggie Anthony scored 11 points and has scored 10 or more in seven straight games. Francis added 10 points, and Braden Eggleston tied his season high with 10 points.

Barete led Ouachita with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
