Henderson State Sweeps Harding Baseball in Saturday Doubleheader

SEARCY – Harding had just one hit in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position and lost both games of a Great American Conference doubleheader Saturday at Jerry Moore Field. Henderson State won the opener 4-1 and game two 3-1. Harding won the first game of the series 6-5 in 12 innings on Friday.
Harding is now 5-7 overall and 1-2 in GAC games. Henderson State is 5-8 overall and 2-1 in conference.

KEY INNINGS (Game 1 – Henderson St. 4, Harding 1)
  • Henderson took a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Tadarious Hawkins led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a balk and stole third. He scored on Alex Morgan's ground ball to shortstop. Jake Gaul singled with one out on a bunt, went to second on another balk and scored on Alan Hall's single to right.
  • Hunter Mayall grounded out with the bases loaded to score Morgan and give the Reddies a 3-0 lead in the sixth. Morgan was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
  • Harding's lone run came in the seventh. With two outs, Harrison Hunter laced a double down the right field line, his second double of the season. Hunter scored on Zac Stewart's single to left field, his sixth RBI of the season.
  • Henderson State scored its final run in eighth on AJ Kruzel's bases loaded walk.
KEY STATS
  • Henderson State won despite going 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and leaving 15 runners on base.
  • Andrew Ralston (1-2) took the loss for Harding. He started and allowed three earned runs over five innings.
  • Luke Tebbetts (1-1) earned the win, allowing only one earned run over seven innings. Jay Hawley struck out three in two innings for the save.
  • Hunter and Grant Guest had two hits each for Harding. It was Hunter's third multi-hit game of the season and Guest's second.
  • Matt Brashear pitched a career-long three innings in relief for Harding. He allowed a run on two hits.
KEY INNINGS (Game 2 – Henderson St. 3, Harding 1)
  • Harding took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Jaxon Mohr's double scored Grant Guest, who reached on a fielder's choice.
  • Henderson State had only one hit over the first four innings, but a leadoff walk in the fourth resulted in the Reddies' first run. Hawkins walked, stole second and third and scored on Jared Gage's single up the middle.
  • Kruzel's two-out, two-run double in the sixth finished off the Reddies' scoring.
KEY STATS
  • Hunter Payne (2-2) suffered the loss for the Bisons but had a quality start. He allowed three runs on only four hits over six innings.
  • Zach Eschberger (1-2) earned the win. He struck out eight and allowed only one run in six innings. Blake Patterson earned the save by pitching a scoreless seventh.
  • Stewart had a double and a triple in his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Harding was 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Henderson State was 4-for-8.
