Harding Baseball Falls 4-1 in GAC Series Opener at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist used a three-run eighth inning to defeat Harding 4-1 in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series at Rab Rodgers Field. The teams conclude the series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.

Harding dropped to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in GAC games. Ouachita improved to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Both teams had solo home runs to open the scoring. Ouachita's Kyle Alexander hit his first home run of the season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Harding answered with a solo home run from Zac Stewart in the sixth. It was also Stewart's first home run of the season and the second home run for Harding.

After giving up the home run to Alexander, Harding starter Andrew Fiddler retired the next 10 Ouachita hitters until Drew Feuerbacher opened the eighth with a single. After a strikeout, Ty Owens doubled to left center, moving Feuerbacher to third. Jakahari Howell singled through the left side, scoring both runners and giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Howell stole second and scored the fourth run on Justin Weigle's single up the middle.

Stewart singled to open the game and extend his team-best hitting streak to nine games. He had two of Harding's four hits.

Fiddler (1-2) took the loss despite striking out nine no walks. He threw 91 pitches in the complete game.

Connor Eller (2-1) also pitched a complete game for Ouachita. He struck out 13 with no walks and allowed four hits.
